Spinal Decompression Therapy in Smyrna, Tennessee: What the session involves

Spinal decompression therapy is a focused option for patients whose back or neck symptoms may respond to controlled traction. The work is not a stand-alone answer for every condition, so the first decision is whether the findings support this approach.

The session centers on patient positioning, gentle stretching, and careful observation. Our team reviews pain patterns, movement, injury history, and treatment goals before selecting the next step.

A progress assessment helps compare how you move and feel over time. That information supports changes to the personalized treatment plan, including adjustments, corrective exercises, therapeutic modalities, or injury rehabilitation when appropriate.

  • Review the injury history and current symptoms.
  • Check movement and physical findings before treatment.
  • Confirm that spinal decompression fits the patient’s condition.
  • Position the patient for controlled, gentle traction.
  • Discuss how the body responds during and after care.
  • Update the personalized treatment plan when needed.

How we approach spinal decompression decisions

Assessment before treatment

A progress assessment helps us decide whether spinal decompression fits the patient’s symptoms and movement findings. We do not treat every condition with the same method.

Positioning that matches the session

Patient positioning is reviewed before traction begins, and comfort remains part of the discussion throughout care.

Care beyond one technique

Spinal decompression may sit within a broader plan that includes adjustments, soft tissue therapy, corrective exercises, or therapeutic modalities.

When another service fits better

This treatment may be the wrong choice when the assessment points to a condition needing a different form of medical evaluation or care.

I called this clinic to make a appointment thinking it was going to be a few days to weeks before they could see me and I was told to come right on in right then and there. The clinic is so nice and clean and has a very friendly environment. The staff is so nice and very understanding and they will work with you on your appointments to make sure it fit your needs. The Doctor is fantastic he is well educated and will explain everything to you that he’s going to do. He has a good personality and sense of humor. The receptionist is so sweet and also has the best personality. They don’t make you wait to be seen when you come in for your appointments, they get you right on to the back. They clean and sanitize everything after each use. I would highly recommend this place. I’m so glad I chose to come here. I’m feeling better & better after each visit. This is the best chiropractor I’ve ever been.

Knowledgable and friendly staff. Dr. Roberts is amazing and always makes me feel at ease and takes time to catch up with me. They get you in and out as quick as possible without making it feel like they're rushing you. Physically I'm feeling a lot better since I started coming here. There's a reason they consistently get 5 star reviews. Stop reading this and go book an appointment.

I performed a google search to find the best care after my car accident. I inquired and received a call from the office in a matter of minutes. After my first visit I was so pleased that I continued my care. The entire staff is professional, compassionate and friendly. They are like a family there which creates a warm and welcoming feel, not to mention the office is super clean. My care has been excellent thus far. Dr. Miller shows care and concern with his patients and explains the process thoroughly. I gave 5 stars because that is the type of service that I have received.

Questions about spinal decompression sessions

What happens during a spinal decompression therapy session?

Progress assessment comes first, followed by patient positioning, gentle stretching, and controlled traction. The session begins with a review of symptoms and movement. We explain how the spinal decompression table works and ask you to report discomfort. After treatment, our team discusses your response and considers whether the plan needs changes.

What should be checked before spinal decompression is scheduled?

The health history, symptoms, movement, and physical findings should be checked before treatment is scheduled. Those details help us decide whether spinal decompression fits your condition. We also review prior injuries and current goals. This step matters because another form of chiropractic or medical care may suit some findings better.

Who is a good fit for spinal decompression therapy?

Patients with certain back or neck symptoms may fit spinal decompression after an assessment. Advanced Injury Care Clinic reviews each person’s history and movement before recommending care. People with findings that call for another evaluation may need a different service. Our team explains that choice during the consultation.

Which part of treatment changes the total cost?

The treatment plan changes the total cost because each plan reflects the assessment and services selected. A plan may include spinal decompression, adjustments, corrective exercises, or injury rehabilitation. We explain the recommended care before treatment proceeds. Request an assessment to discuss the details for your condition.

When should someone ask about spinal decompression after an injury?

Someone should ask about spinal decompression when back or neck symptoms continue and movement feels limited after an injury. An assessment should come first, especially after an auto accident, workplace injury, or sports injury. We review the symptoms and injury history before deciding whether traction belongs in the care plan.

Why might a session include corrective exercises too?

Corrective exercises may be included when movement limits need active support outside the treatment table. Spinal decompression addresses the guided traction portion of care, while exercises help you practice controlled movement. Our team chooses exercises based on the assessment and explains how they fit the recovery plan.
